Ten Thousand Villages

Position: Volunteer Sales Associate

Goal: Serve as an advocate for artisans in developing countries by assisting customers on

sales floor, sharing the mission and sharing artisans stories when appropriate.

Duties:

1. Learn the history and mission of Ten Thousand Villages. Learn product and

producer information, store policies and procedures. Advocate for craftspeople

by sharing their stories with customers.

2. Greet and assist customers. Ring up sales.

3. Unpack, price and stock merchandise as needed.

4. Light cleaning and organizing as needed to maintain an appealing sales floor

appearance.

5. Other duties as assigned by staff on duty.

Qualifications:

1. Interest in and commitment to our mission.

2. Ability to learn procedures and product information.

3. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and to promote

the store for the benefit of our artisans.

4. Dependability.

5. Sixteen years of age or older to work the register.

Time Required:

1. Complete a training program of 6 – 8 hours over two shifts.

2. Minimum of 8 hours per month (one full day or 2 ½ day shifts) for at least six

months. You can always do more!

Place: 3201 West Cary Street. A manager or other supervisor will be in the store at all

times.
