Lotus Collection
The true blues of painted Vietnamese ceramic are
grounded in rich neutrals of chocolate brown, celadon, and cream. Dark-toned
basketry, smoked Asian bamboo and satin-smooth obeechi wood provide a visually
pleasing contrast to the classic styles of blue and white teapots, cups, and
serving pieces. Silver metal and sculpted stone figures lend a timeless beauty
to this classic collection.

Tabletop Ceramics
Vietnam
Item #s:5416700, 5400340, 5401140, 5405270
Influenced by Ming China, Vietnam's blue and white
ceramics have been sought after throughout the world since the 15th
century. Today potters blend artistic skill with time honored techniques
in the famous pottery village of Bat Trang, just east of Hanoi, where
there are as many kilns as houses. Ceramics skills are passed down through
the generations. Artisans pour clay into molds, and carefully remove the
pieces when they are set. Paint and glaze is applied by hand, and, when
dry, the pottery is fired at very high temperatures, giving it strength
and durability.

Plant and Garden
Vietnam
Item #s:5405750, 5407000, 5405230, 5440270
For centuries, Vietnamese artisans have been known for
their exquisite ceramics. To create the planters, artisans first put the
clay into a round mold and spread the clay around the walls of the mold.
Next, they place the mold on the rolling table and, with a special piece
of machinery, roll the mold in order to make the pot round. Artisans
take the mold outside and allow the clay inside to dry for about two
hours. After two hours, they take the pot out of the mold and allow it
to dry completely. After applying the glaze by hand, the artisans place
the pot under the sun to allow the glaze to dry and then place the
planter in a wood-fired kiln. Artisans heat the kiln to over 800 degrees
Celsius for one day. Then they extinguish the fire and allow the kiln to
cool before removing the planters.
